The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has successfully arrested five individuals following the dismantling of a notorious robbery and rape syndicate that had been terrorising parts of the Ashanti Region.

The Juaso District Police Command, acting on credible intelligence, uncovered the gang, which is alleged to have specifically targeted young ladies and students. Victims were reportedly lured into private vehicles under the pretence of offering lifts to their destinations, only to be driven to secluded hideouts along the Morso Road, where they were robbed of their belongings and, in some cases, sexually assaulted before being abandoned.

The five suspects, arraigned before the Konongo District Court on January 8, 2026, on provisional charges of conspiracy, robbery, and rape, were remanded to reappear on January 28, 2026. They are David Adusah, alias “Viber”, 19; Samuel Amantor, alias “Road”, 21; Andrew Odei, alias “Salinko”, 21; Sharif Mohammed, alias “Isco”, 18; and Joseph Addo Ofori, alias “Moves”, 22.

Investigations have linked the gang to a series of criminal incidents over several months.

These include the attack on three female students attending remedial classes at Kurofa Senior High School on August 15, 2025; the robbery and sexual assault of two women on October 6, 2025; another robbery and sexual assault incident on November 10, 2025; and the robbery of a woman at Abrepo Junction, Kumasi, on January 2, 2026.

Addressing the media today at the Ashanti South Regional Police Command conference room, the Ashanti South Regional Deputy Police Commander, ACP Cephas Arthur, said the arrests followed weeks of intelligence-led operations targeting violent criminal networks across the region. He assured the public of the Police Service’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

He disclosed that, acting on intelligence on January 8, 2026, the Juaso District Commander, Superintendent Benjamin Mensah, deployed a team of officers to New Abirem in the Eastern Region. With support from their counterparts in Abirem, twelve suspects were arrested during the operation.

ACP Cephas Arthur revealed that a search of the suspects’ hideout led to the recovery of a military camouflage uniform, a photograph of the alleged gang leader dressed in military attire, forty-nine mobile phone covers, and a bayonet case. Additionally, a Toyota RAV4 vehicle, believed to have been used in some of the gang’s criminal operations, was seized.

He noted that preliminary investigations cleared seven of the suspects, who were granted bail, while the remaining five were formally charged and remanded to assist further investigations.
