The Tema Regional Police Command has intercepted a large consignment of suspected narcotic drugs in a major intelligence-led operation along the Akosombo–Tema road.
The Tema Regional Police Command has intercepted a total of one thousand, six hundred and thirteen parcels of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
According to a police statement, the operation was carried out following intelligence received on January 10th, 2026, indicating that suspected narcotic substances were being transported from the Volta Region toward Tema.
Police surveillance teams were quickly deployed along the route, with particular attention on the Agomeda Junction area.
At about 12:45 a.m. on January 11th, two vehicles, a white Toyota Highlander and a black Mitsubishi Pajero, were intercepted.
The vehicles were driven by thirty-three-year-old Isaac Odo and thirty-nine-year-old Kwame Mani.

A search conducted on the vehicles led to the discovery of several compressed, yellow-wrapped parcels suspected to be narcotic drugs.
The suspects were immediately arrested, and the vehicles were escorted to the police station for further action.
On January 12, both the suspects and the exhibits were handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department in Tema, where photographs and inventories were taken.
In total, 872 parcels were retrieved from the Mitsubishi Pajero, while 741 parcels were found in the Toyota Highlander.
The suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.
Samples of the substances will be sent to the Forensic Crime Laboratory for testing, while further searches are expected to be conducted at the suspects’ residences.
Police say arrangements are underway to process the suspects for court.
The Tema Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to intensifying operations against drug trafficking and other criminal activities and is urging the public to continue providing credible information to support security efforts.
The statement was signed by Assistant Superintendent of Police Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs, Tema.
