Kumasi: Police inspector sentenced to life for murder of his girlfriend

In a courtroom heavy with the weight of a life cut short, a High Court on Friday, October 24, 2025, sentenced Police Inspector Ahmed Twumasi to life imprisonment for the cold-blooded murder of his girlfriend, 26-year-old Victoria Dapaah.

The verdict brings a sombre close to a case that has captivated and horrified the nation, a tragic narrative of a trusted officer who turned his state-issued weapon on the woman he claimed to love.

In the courtroom, Inspector Twumasi stood motionless as the judge pronounced the sentence.

The court found him guilty of using his service rifle to repeatedly shoot Victoria Dapaah, popularly known as Maadwoa, in the abdomen and chest at close range on April 20, 2023 in Adum.

The 5-2 verdict by the jurors came as a huge relief for the family of Maadwoa.

For them, the life sentence is a necessary measure of justice.

Inspector Ahmed Twumasi was arrested on Sunday, April 23, 2023. The shooting incident occurred in Kumasi, in the Ashanti region, on Thursday, 20th April 2023.

The suspect was arrested at Sekyere, near Effiduase in the Ashanti region, as a result of a special police operation, which was launched following the shooting incident.

Maadwoa, a young woman with her future ahead of her, was remembered by friends as ambitious and full of life.

While the life sentence cannot return a beloved daughter and friend to her family, it sends a message that no one is above the law.

The defense counsel has one month to file for an appeal.
