The principal and co-founder of Jackson Educational Complex, Mrs Theodosia Jackson, has urged graduates to embrace technology as they prepare to enter the job market.

Speaking at the Jackson Institute of Technology graduation ceremony, she emphasised the importance of digital skills in today’s competitive economy.

Addressing the graduating students, the principal said technology is shaping industries across the globe, and graduates who adapt quickly will have a greater chance of thriving.

She noted that the traditional job market has become highly competitive, with employers now placing a premium value on skills such as digital literacy, innovation, and adaptability.

She also highlighted the need for continuous learning, encouraging graduates not to see education as ending with a certificate but as a lifelong journey.

According to her, technology offers opportunities for entrepreneurship, remote work, and global collaboration, all of which can help reduce unemployment among the youth.

She also called on the government to incorporate technology more fully into the national curriculum, saying it is critical in preparing students for the demands of the modern job market.

‘I urge the government to integrate digital literacy, coding, and other technology-driven subjects into our schools at all levels. This is the only way we can build a workforce that is innovative, adaptable, and future-ready.’’

He further explained that while universities are making efforts to provide digital training, a stronger commitment at the basic and secondary levels would ensure that students graduate with the skills employers now demand.

Therefore, the government, the private sector, and educational institutions need to expand access to digital tools and training.
