One person is reported dead after some youth group clashed with some army officers.
The incident occurred at Nyinahin-Nkwanta in the Atwima Mponua district of the Ashanti region.
A police report intercepted by Akoma news states “At 11.10 am, Nyinahin Police received a distress call to the effect that some Soldiers in a Military vehicle with registration number 73 GA 39 had shot into a group of youth who were going to the cemetery to bury a dead friend.
The victims have been rushed to Nyinahin government hospital for treatment. On receipt of the information, personnel on duty at Akota and Antwi Adjei- Nkwanta snap check points were alerted to intercept them. Police then proceeded to the said facility and found victims Kofi Agyapong aged 44, Alfred Kwarteng aged 24, Kofi Owusu alias Juve aged 36 with gun shots wounds receiving treatment.
However, victim Akwasi Lala alias Kushivi, aged 37 with a gun shot in the head was found dead.
Spot investigation revealed that today 24/04/25 about 11.00 am, some youth of Nyinahin were going to bury their dead friend at the cemetery.
That on reaching Nyinahin-Nkwanta, a military truck with some Soldiers on board from Kumasi direction heading towards Bibiani, met them, and stopped. About six (6) of the soldiers got down and confronted Akwasi Lala alias Kushivi, now deceased who was wearing military unform to remove same.
That whilst he was removing the uniform, one of the soldiers shot at his head, killing him instantly and also fried indiscriminately into the crowd, injuring the three men who are now on admission receiving treatment Information received from the dutymen at the snap check points indicated that the military vehicle on reaching the check points failed to stop and sped off.”
Police reports 18 empty shells were retrieved at the crime scene.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Nyinahin community mortuary.
