President Akufo-Addo’s final State of the Nation Address was briefly interrupted by a medical emergency when one of his personal bodyguards collapsed while standing guard in Parliament.

A dramatic incident unfolded during President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo‘s final State of the Nation Address on Friday, January 3, 2025.

While reviewing his administration’s achievements and outlining aspirations for Ghana’s future, one of his personal bodyguards, Colonel Isaac Amponsah, collapsed while standing guard.

The sudden collapse of Col. Amponsah, a long-serving and dedicated member of the President’s security detail, caused a stir within the Parliament chamber. Immediate concern arose among those present.

Parliament’s medical team swiftly responded to the emergency, administering first aid before quickly transporting Col. Amponsah to a nearby medical facility for further evaluation and treatment.

President Akufo-Addo, visibly concerned, paused his address to ensure his bodyguard received the necessary attention.
