Actress Martha Ankomah has brushed off Kumawood actor Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win‘s public apology for his actions against her in the GH₵5 million defamation suit she filed against him at the High Court in Accra.

According to a court report by Murtala Inusah, the actress felt it was not enough and said the apology missed the proper ingredients of its genre—that of retraction and apology.

The case, which was filed by Ankomah on February 14, 2024, involves a claim for damages following alleged defamatory comments made by Lil Win in a viral video.

The actress is demanding GH₵5 million in damages as well as a formal apology and retraction with the same prominence as the alleged defamatory statements.

On Friday, December 13, 2024, the High Court case was heard in camera for nearly three hours. Both parties, along with their legal representatives, engaged in discussions aimed at amicably resolving the matter. The court has adjourned proceedings to February 25, 2025, to allow the parties time to finalize the terms of a settlement.

It is anticipated that Lil Win may issue a new public apology that meets Ankomah’s expectations as part of the settlement process. Ankomah’s legal team insists that any resolution must include a retraction and apology that properly addresses the harm done to her reputation.

Background to the Case

The defamation suit arises from a viral video in which Lil Win allegedly insulted Martha Ankomah, undermining her prominence in the film industry. Ankomah claims that the statements were reckless and malicious, causing significant damage to her reputation. In her lawsuit, Ankomah is seeking:

GH₵5 million in damages for the defamatory statements.
Compensatory damages for harm to her reputation.
Aggravated damages for the malicious publication of the defamatory words.
A court order compelling Lil Win to publish a formal apology and retraction with equal prominence.

Lil Win and his legal team have expressed interest in resolving the matter outside the courtroom.
