He further asked Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to fulfil his promise of scrapping the E-levy and other taxes without delay after insisting that if Dr. Bawumia is serious about his pledge, he will begin the process of fulfilling them considering his significant role in the current government.

Dr Bawumia had promised to abolish the controversial E-Levy, to transition Ghana into a cashless economy.

“To accomplish this, there will be no taxes on digital payments under my administration. The e-levy will therefore be abolished,” Dr Bawumia announced.

Again, the 2024 flagbearer of the NPP had pledged to eliminate other taxes, including the VAT on electricity, the emissions tax, and the betting tax.

Speaking to members of GUTA on Tuesday, April 9, Mr Mahama called on GUTA to hold Dr Bawumia accountable by pressing on him to eliminate certain nuisance taxes introduced by the current government.

“Tell Bawumia to eliminate the E-Levy and other taxes now, not later,” he said.
