An aircraft believed to belong to the Ghana Armed Forces is reported to have crashed at Bonsukrom, a community in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region.

Assembly Member of the area, Thomas Dadzie, who confirmed the news to our sister station Connect FM, explained that the accident occurred after the pilot was interrupted by a thunderstorm while in motion.

He adds that three people who were onboard the aircraft have since been rushed to a nearby private hospital for treatment, while a search is underway to ensure those trapped are rescued.

“I was preparing to work when I had a call that an aircraft had crashed and was on fire. I tried to make calls, and some people came to the scene.

An eyewitness tells me there was a thunderstorm while the aircraft was still in motion, The pilot was trying to swerve the thunder, and that led to the accident. We have so far been able to rescue three people who were onboard at a nearby private medical centre. We are still searching the scene to ascertain if there are others trapped in the aircraft.

According to him, military officers who reported him to the scene seized his phones and prevented him from taking pictures. He also adds that security has since been tight at the scene.

Some officers are currently at the scene, which makes me believe the aircraft belongs to the Ghana Armed Forces.
