The resignation of Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has been met with varying opinions.

Suame constituents received the news with shock from their Member of Parliament, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, as he resigned as speaker of parliament.

According to them, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu is an experienced politician as well as a long-serving member of parliament for the constituency, and they are not expecting him to resign from the speakership role in the midst of going to the 2024 general election.

While some believe he was pushed out, others think he should have been allowed to finish the term with the current Parliament.

“It came as a shock to us because he is an experienced member of parliament for the Suame constituency and is a big blow to us.”

Some of the constituents also expressed different sentiments toward the legislature’s influence in terms of the development of the constituency.

Many felt his resignation would not affect the constituency or the party as a whole because, with all his experience in politics, he has not derived any monumental developments in the constituency.

They reiterated that Hon.Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu’s resignation was a good initiative that needs to be emulated by other politicians who render a disservice to their constituents.

“It is good he has resigned from the speakership because he has done nothing in Kronum, constituents of Kronum voted for him (Hon Kyei Mensah Bonsu), but not a single development happened here. So I am happy he has resigned, someone was there before he came, so I think that person too can do the work for the party, and it won’t affect the party anyway.”.

The long-serving Member of Parliament for the Suame constituency and Majority Leader of the New Patriotic Party, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, honourably resigned as majority leader of NPP members of Parliament after a crucial meeting between the Majority Caucus and Jubilee House on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, to discuss the news circulation of majority leader changes.

He has served in the ranks of the NPP parliamentary leadership for about 23 years.

During this period, he was majority leader for 15 years and two months, deputy leader for four years, and chief whip for four years.

Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu takes up the vital role of leading “Team Bawumia” to fashion out the NPP’s manifesto around the vision of the party’s presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
