The Dormaahene and President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Osagyefo Oseadeyo Dr. Agyeman Badu has described the proposed Bank of Ghana new headquarters to be constructed at the cost of 250 million dollars as highly a misplaced priority.
The Dormaahene expressed his displeasure about the Bank of Ghana initiative at the first general meeting of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs in Sunyani.
He described it as unacceptable for the Bank of Ghana which has declared an operational loss of money to the country at the tune of 60.8 billion Ghana Cedis to use part of the 3 billion dollars IMF contracted loan to execute its building project.
“It is disheartening for the Bank of Ghana to use this huge amount of money to build their new headquarters whiles their indebted of over Ghs60 billion. If government give us even 10 million dollars out of the 250 million dollars it can develop most of the region, especially the Bono region and beyond.
“If I have the requisite equipment I will dismantle the building to help us use the money for another important this which is in dire need of the country to attend to”.
He, therefore, called on the government to halt the Bank of Ghana’s glamorous projects and use the money to address critical development needs and conduct an investigation into the funds used to construct the ongoing project.
The highlight of the meeting saw the swearing-in of two Chiefs as officially recognised members of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs.
They are Nana Amoapong Tabrako III of Wenchi and Osagyefo Ampem Anye of Kwatwoma.
