A 23-year-old lady has died after falling in a galamsey pit whilst attending nature’s call at Odumase near Konongo.
The lady woke up in the morning, entered the toilet in her home and whilst shitting, the entire structure collapsed and landed her in an abandoned mining pit.
In-house mining is common in the Odumase township, near Konongo in the Ashanti region region.
From a distance, the homes here appear to be normal but a walk closer to the community reveals a different story
Several houses have been turned into a mining site which posing threat to residents.
According to uniquenewsgh.com reporter, the miners have dug beneath the houses in their quest to search for gold, leaving most of the houses hanging.
The effect of this illegal activity had led to the death of many with the latest being Gifty.
Speaking to residents ,it took the rescuers hours before retrieving the body of young lady.
Several houses here have developed deep cracks with a possibility of collapsing.
Mr.Philip Tinkorang a resident of the community says the tragedy occurred when the young lady was using the washroom of the place where she reside.She fell into the galamsey pit whilst using the washroom.
The entire community currently leaving on time bomb because any moment from now another tragedy can occurred due to the havoc caused by the illegal miners activities.
“What occurred ,we need to take an immediate action against it and stop politicizing,the tragedy is consequences of ten years ago. A lot of houses have developed cracks”.
The Konongo police has commenced investigation into the death of the young lady.
