On official social media Facebook page of The Kingdom of Asante posted a statement which says the canditate presented to Asanteman Council as paramount chief of Offinso to succeed the late Nana Wiafe Akenten lll Dr. Kofi Kodua Sarpong who was a former CEO Asante Kotoko Sporting Club and also served as Chief Executive of Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) was rejected by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll .
After the the paramount chief of Offinso traditionl council Nana Wiafe Akenten joined his ancestors ,the
Abusuapanin of the Ashirem royal gate and other elders of the Offinso elected Dr. Kofi Kodua Sarpong as a candidate to occupy the stool as Offinso paramount chief.
According to the statement,the royal gate family of Offinso traditional Council presented a disqualified candidate to Asanteman Council to be accepted as paramount chief.
But after thoroughly investigation and scrutinizing the background of the candidate ,it came to conclusion that he was not chosen based on customs and traditions.
“On the 20th October, 2022, Asanteman Council Meeting was held at the Manhyia Palace. Issues that were raised during the meeting was the Offinso Chieftaincy disputes in which the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has thrown out the case of the Abusuapanin of the Ashirem royal gate and other elders of the Offinso for presenting unqualified candidate to the Offinsohemaa Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko for the Dwamena and Akenten stool of the Offinso and also failing to protect the customs and traditions of the stool in which he described as contempt.
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II insisted that the right things should be done and will not endorse any “backdoor machination” through the offering of bribes and also telling of lies by some elders of the Offinso Traditional Area just to favour one particular person. He then tasked the Offinsohemaa Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko to ensure that the right candidate will be selected as demanded by the tradition and customary protocols”.

Dr. Kofi Koduah Sarpong is a Ghanaian by birth born on 10th September, 1954 and hails from Beposo near Nsuta in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Dr. Sarpong is married with adult children.
Dr. Sarpong has been in executive management for nearly thirty-five (35) years. He was Chief Accountant and General Manager, Ghana Food Distribution Corporation (1983-1990), Deputy Managing Director, Produce Buying Company Limited (1990-1994), Deputy Chief Executive, Ghana Cocoa Board (1994-1998), Head of Administrative & Financial Services Division, International Cocoa Organisation London (1999-2003), Deputy Managing Director and Managing Director, Tema Oil Refinery (2003-2009), Executive Chairman, Kumasi Asante Kotoko Football Club (2010-2013), Group Chief Executive, Global Haulage Group Limited (2014-2016). Since January 2017, Dr. Sarpong has served as Chief Executive of Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC). A result-oriented person, Dr. Sarpong carried out relevant initiatives in the organisations mentioned above to turn around their fortunes.
