The National Democratic Congress has called for an immediate investigation into the report issued by Prof Frempong Boateng alleging the involvement of high-profile government and NPP officials in Galamsey.
National Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi wants the Office of the Special Prosecutor and bi-partisan Parliamentary investigations into the matter.
Prof Frempong Boateng, former Minister of Environment Science Technology and Innovation and Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining is reported to have sent a detailed report naming and shaming some government and party officials engaged in Galamsey.
Although he sent the report to the Chief of Staff two years ago, the report got into the public domain last receiving public backlash on the President’s commitment to the fight against Galamsey.
Sammy Gyamfi wants all those cited in the report investigated and prosecuted when found culpable.
The Communications Officer also touched on a recent investigative piece by AL Jazeera, an international TV station on gold smuggling in some African countries.
That report allegedly indites President Akufo-Addo for his deal in gold smuggling.
Sammy Gyamfi touched on the report and the need for all well-meaning Ghanaians to be worried about the constant mentioning of the President’s name in corruption cases.
