Ashanti regional chairman of the ruling npp, Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Wontumi has for the second time declared public support for the vice president’s prospective flagbearership ambition.
At a private dinner held in Kumasi on December 30, Wontumi once again breached the party’s code of conduct, despite earlier caution by the general secretary in August 2022
This is the second time the Ashanti regional chairman of the ruling npp has openly declared his support for the vice president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia
The chairman is heard asking members of the regional executive council to declare their loyalty to Dr Bawumia in a simple abreviated slogan BMW, meaning Bawumiah Must Win
Also present at the meeting was the Ejisu mp and deputy finance minister, Dr John Kumah
Also present was the Effiduase MP dr Ayew Afriyie, interestingly it was his house that Wontumi first made the public declaration, sometime in the mid 2022, when the vice president toured parts of the Ashanti Region.
In August 2022 the general secretary of the npp issued a statement reminding the regional chairman and also cautioning him against recurrence.
For emphasis, the Code of Conduct provides in Section 1 (f) that: “Members, supporters, sympathizers of the Party at all levels shall desist from using their public office or portfolio within or outside the party to promote the interest of any prospective presidential or parliamentary candidate in order to gain unfair political advantage.
A clear flouting of the party’s constitution, but will the national executive council of the party crack the whip?
