The Concerned Passengers of Jaman South have noticed that despite the drastic reduction of the prices of fuel (petrol & diesel ), transportation fares still remain high and unbearable.

It will be recalled that the price of fuel increased so high that it caused high increase in transportation fares which significantly affected the prices of goods and services in the country.

As of the 1st of November, 2022, the ex pump prices of petrol and diesel were GHC 18.98 per litre and GHC 22.70 per litre respectively. Now, as of today, 15th December, 2022, the ex pump prices of Petrol and diesel stand at GHC 13. 59 per litre and GHC 16. 59 per litre respectively.

This means that the prices of fuel (petrol and diesel ) have reduced drastically. That is, about a whopping amount of GHC 6.00 (24%) and GHC 9.00 (29%) have been reduced from the prices of petrol and diesel per litre respectively. But the biggest question is, why have transportation fares remained same and high?

“We, the Concerned Passengers of Jaman South are therefore demanding that the Transport Ministry and the Transport Unions such as the GPRTU, PROTOA, Concerned Drivers Union, etc. MUST as quickly as possible, work to revise the prices of transportation fares. We suggest that the fares must be reduced by at least 20%. Anything less than 20% reduction of transportation fares is a cheat and an insult on passengers and must not be accepted.

As known by all, the reduction or decrease in transportation fares has significant influence on prices of market commodities. Thus, the lower the cost of transportation, the cheaper the cost of commodities and the higher the cost of transportation, the higher the cost of market commdities. So, it is therefore appropriate that transportation fares are reduced now that the fuel price is reduced so that it will have the corresponding effect on the prices of goods and services.

As passengers, we will not sit down for us to be cheated by drivers and car owners. Our eyes and ears are widely opened. We are ready to live cordially and peacefully with transport unions, drivers and car owners. Any attempt to cheat us will be highly and legitimately resisted”

According to them, they want to take the opportunity to thank H.E. President Nana Akufo Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for their efforts to bringing back hope in the Ghanaian Economy, most especially, for making fuel all time availabe in the country and for bringing down the price of fuel.
