The families of victims of the Ejura disturbances that occurred the year 2021, have petitioned parliament through the Member of Parliament, Mohammed Bawah Braimah, for rejection of Justice Kingsley Koomson’s nomination to supreme court.

The family members include those of late social activist, Ibrahim Muhammed, Abdul Nasir Yussif, Muntala, and Mohammed Siraji.

In their joint petition, they said they want Parliament to ensure that justice is served with respect to events that led to the death of Ibrahim Muhammed, popularly known as Kaaka.

“Earlier this week on Monday, the Appointments Committee of Parliament through a report, recommended to the full House of Parliament, the approval of two of the four nominees of the President to the Supreme Court.

The recommended list omits the name of Justice Kingsley Koomson, the Chair of the Ejura Committee, against whose nomination the Joint Committee of the Victims of Ejura had petitioned Parliament”.

In the petition, the Joint Committee also reminded the minority bench that the NDC executive had after the aftermath of the Ejura Report held a press conference stating their believe that Justice Koomson did not display the necessary integrity and independence of thought in the exercise.

The Joint Committee notes that the Appointments Committee was silent on whether it is rejecting the nomination of Justice Kingsley Koomson or only delaying it.

“While we are confident that the nomination of Justice Koomson will be rejected, we reiterate by this press statement our continuous believe that Justice Koomson is not fit for the Office to which he is being appointed, based on the lack of integrity, fairness and in dependence displayed during his work as Chair of the Ejura Committee.

We thus call on Parliament to express its implied rejection of the nomination of Justice Koomson in clearer and unambiguous terms”.
