Labour unions give gov’t ultimatum for payment pension 5% of their 8 months pension arrears

The forum comprising nine labour unions are at the neck of government to pay 5 percent of their 8 months pension arrears or risk their anger.

At a news conference in Accra, the president of Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association of Ghana Mrs.Perpetual Ofori Ampofo  says, government should consider paying arrears rather than attempting to use pension funds to restructure debt.

Leadership of the forum expressed grave concern about the 8months pension arrears owed its registered schemes.

According to the pensions act 766, transfer of funds to the registered schemes are to done within 14 days failure which government will pay 3 percent penalty.

However the leadership of the forum demanding that government pays 5 percent on their arrears.

compounding the anger of the leadership of forum is an attempt by finance minister to use pension funds.

The forum has called on the national pensions regulatory authority to stop government from using the funds.

Currently the finance minister is expected to begin the debt exchange programme on 19th of December,

However president of NAGRAT Angel Carbonu also  has cautioned the finance minister ahead of the debt restructure and labour is ready to seek any legal action against government if the pension fund suffers any head-cut.
