Nine people who are said to be illegal miners escaped death when the canoe they were travelling with capsized on River Pra at Awisam in the Assin Fosu Municipality of the Central Region.
Two went missing after the incident which occurred on Monday, April 17, 2023.
They are Nana Yaw, aged 26, and “Konkoma” who is said to be in his 30s.
According to reports gathered by uniquenewsgh 11 people were in a canoe which is supposed to take 5 people around 7 pm.
The Boat capsized but nine were able to swim to the shores.
The canoe eventually overturned midway when it hit a rock in the river when returning home after they undertook their illegal mining trade.
Confirming the incident, the Assemblyman of the area, Mr Jerry Ayuba said a search party is currently on the water including chiefs and police officers.
Mr Ayuba reiterated that this is not the first time such sad incidents are happening on the river in the area.
Adding that the victims involved are mostly youth who seem to value the money they gain from the activities more than their lives.
Information picked indicates one of the missing bodies has been found dead.
