Students at Osei Tutu Senior High School Boy practice open defecation due to the closure of their over-20-year-old toilet facilities.

Currently, the student population of over 4000 relies on a pit latrine dug by the school authority for temporary use, but the pit latrine is currently full, compelling the students to ease themselves in the bush.

The situation endangers students’ health while also impeding their academic progress at school.

The school was founded in 1940, which means it has been nearly 84 years without a modern toilet facility to serve as a place of convenience for students.

A visit to the school revealed that almost all the infrastructure facilities in the school were built during the colonial era and are in deplorable condition without a facelift.

The school’s headmaster, Very Rev. Yaw Osei, stated that the situation was beyond the school’s jurisdiction and called for immediate intervention from the government, former students, and philanthropists to assist them.

He added that the school is in desperate need of dual desks for students and that the classroom blocks and headmaster’s bungalow are in disrepair and need to be renovated.

Insecurity is currently plaguing the school.

The school is not fenced, allowing outsiders to attack students on numerous occasions.

He spoke to uniquenewsgh News at the sidelines of Abrempong Homecoming, organized by the Old Students Association, to solicit funds to support the project.

Mr. Joseph Opoku Siaw, president of the Old Students Association, has called for collaborative stakeholder support to help lift the school out of its current state.
